5 Top Accessory Trends For 2016

Every girl knows that accessories are the make-or-break outfit point. But this year, designers have opted for the ultimate maximalist approach to these wardrobe additions. If you are considering what to buy this season, just stick to big, flashy and statement pieces, and you will not go wrong. Let’s see what we will be wearing this spring.

1. Belt-Bag
The bag that caused the most polarized opinions in the 90s is the IT bag of 2016. The belt bag is back and this time with a vengeance. Although you do not usually associate something that is colloquially referred to as fanny bag and loved by tourists with chic, this hip-hugging piece has dramatically evolved during the past years. It is smaller and more glamorous, but still undeniably convenient. It showed up at Alexander Wang, Chanel, Céline, and Louis Vuitton, paired with both daywear and eveningwear. Retailers have also readily embraced the hands-free trend, so you can already find their own versions at stores.

2. XXL hoops and shoulder-earrings
The last year’s trend of nondescript and minimal studs and ear cuffs has been replaced by statement earrings and shoulder dusters in 2016. The motto of the year is: The bigger, the better! Do not mind the colour or the shape, just make sure they are huge. From Oscar De La Renta, Gucci, Rosie Assoulin, Dolce and Gabbana, Alexander Wang, and Prada, designers adorned models’ lobes with head-turning ornaments. We have seen disco-ball-reminiscent orbs, sculptural sets, long chain links, tassels, and shoulder-grazing jewels. What is more perfect for adding that dramatic effect than a pair of statement earrings?

3. Statement chokers and collar necklaces
Ladies never reveal their age, but if you are in your thirties, you must remember the tattoo-like stretch chokers that were the staple items of the 90s. Well, they are definitely becoming the staple items of 2016, too. Only this time, they went bigger, crazier, and more exaggerated. Needless to say, their appearance on the runway shows had the ‘notice me’ factor. Swarovski’s edgy graphic punk-like models made a real fashion statement, while Narciso Rodriguez took a more sophisticated turn with his collection. The boldest of them, Givenchy, showcased dramatic golden collars on the verge of science fiction.

4. Jewelled crowns and tiaras
It seems that hair accessories in 2016 will not be discrete either. We have seen all sorts of hair embellishments, from jewelled headbands and hairpins, to – wait for it… princess crowns and tiaras. The good news is that they are not reserved only for little girls role-playing. Even big girls in their twenties are allowed to dress up as princesses this season. Planning on visiting any music festivals this summer? Why not go in a big style with a crown on your head?

5. Leather bags
This is the one trend we are sure you will love, because it provides you with a perfect excuse to buy a new leather bag. Leather bags make you look stylish without too much effort. Forget about updating your entire wardrobe. One bag is all it takes for a finishing touch on any outfit. And the styles are aplenty this year. We have the backpack, bucket bag, saddle bag, clutch, messenger bag, satchel, tote bag, etc. Regardless of the handbag style you choose to rock this summer, make sure it is made of the right type of leather. Cowhide and lambskin bags are much more durable. Also, great leather gifts for men and women are a perfect birthday gift choice.
