If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you will know that I have been blogging for nearly four years now. Recently, I created a guide for new bloggers, filled with lots of tips for launching a first blog.
Once I had finished this, I started thinking about the other factors it takes to be a successful blogger. For me, that’s having my own space to create my content in. The long and the short of it is that every blogger needs an office. Whether that’s an entire room or the corner of one, it doesn’t matter, just as long as you have a small area dedicated to running your blog.
To help you design a beautiful home office, I have put together a few tips that you should find useful.
Pick a colour scheme and stick to it
First things first, choose a colour scheme. If you are using the spare corner of a room, ensure that this is something that works well with the rest of the space. If you are the type of person who likes to mix things up every so often, stick to neutral shades for the walls and furniture, and add colour via accessories. That way, if you decide to change your office in the future, it'll be much easier.
Don’t forget your budget
As with every DIY project, it’s always a good idea to set a budget. As otherwise, you will end up overspending. You might think that creating a fantastic home office area will be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.
Make use of unused pieces of furniture from around your home and revamp them yourself. Believe it or not, revamping is much easier than you would think. If you fancy giving it a go, there are plenty of tutorials online. Shop the sales - look out for an online home furniture sale or discount day at your fave home store, and use that to get all the bits that you need.
I don’t know about you, but for me, I find that to be creative with my work, I need to be in an inspiring space. That’s why, when it comes to designing a home office, I believe that creativity is essential.
Coming up with ideas for your office area can sometimes be tricky, especially, at first. However, I find that using Pinterest to get my creative juices flowing can be a fantastic help. There are so many amazing ideas on here, so make sure to take a look.
Design a functional space
While creating an office area that is visually appealing is important, it’s also crucial to make the space functional. This means thinking about the things that your office needs to function as a proper area for working in.For instance, when it comes to choosing a desk, make sure to opt for a design that is the correct size and height. Think about what needs to fit on your desk, and ensure that you choose a design that can accommodate that.
Storage is also important when it comes to functionality. If your office lacks storage, it will be difficult to work in. There are plenty of options for office storage, so whatever size area you have, there will be a suitable option.
Make the area personal
Don’t make the mistake of trying to make your office too corporate. Remember, you’re not in a professional workplace, but your own space. Your home office should be designed in a way that’s personal to you, not in the way that you think it should be styled.Dot photos of friends and family around. Pick pieces of wall art that you love - when it comes to inspiration, quotes can be fantastic. Pop little features around the room or area to add extra personality - bunting is fantastic for this, as are vases of your favourite flowers.
It’s not just about beautiful features, though, when it comes to personalising a space, scents are also important. If you have a favourite scent, spread it around the room with scented candles and room sprays.
